Just 30 minutes a day: It renews the body

Just 30 minutes a day: It renews the body

New research has revealed that just 30 minutes less sitting each day can significantly alter the body's energy balance. Experts say this small difference can boost metabolism, increase fat burning, and provide a natural energy boost.

Scientists note that reducing sitting time improves the body's ability to use both fat and carbohydrates as fuel. This, in turn, strengthens the body's ability to switch energy sources based on needs, known as "metabolic flexibility." According to experts, this reduced flexibility can increase the risk of blood sugar imbalances, insulin resistance, weight gain, and even cardiovascular disease. However, reducing sitting time by just 30 minutes can reverse this process.

EVEN STANDING UP WHILE TALKING ON THE PHONE IS ENOUGH

Research conducted at the University of Turku in Finland found that people who sat for 30–60 minutes less per day showed significantly better metabolic outcomes than those who remained sedentary.

Dr. Taru Garthwaite, author of the study, made the following statement:

“Small daily movements, such as standing up to make a phone call or adding short walks, can significantly support metabolic health.”

In the six-month study, fat burning and energy conversion improved significantly even in people who simply reduced their sitting time.

"THE RESULTS ARE VERY ENCOURAGING"

Experts warn that a sedentary lifestyle increases the long-term risk of diabetes and heart disease. However, simply sitting for half an hour less each day can be an effective step in reducing these risks. "Even small changes can make a big difference," Dr. Garthwaite said. "These results are especially encouraging for people who are overweight or spend long hours at a desk."

MOVE MORE

Experts remind us that at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity activity should be done per week, as recommended by the World Health Organization, but in addition, reducing sitting time during the day both increases energy and makes the body more resistant to disease.
