He clung to life with the marrow he received from his sister.
Fadime Özişe was diagnosed with leukemia when she went to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pain and redness under the skin.
Özişe, who thought she had overcome the disease with the medication and chemotherapy she received, later relapsed and was informed that a bone marrow transplant was necessary.
Her sister, who was determined to be a tissue match with Öziş in the tests performed on family members, became a hope.
Özişe underwent a bone marrow transplant from her sister at the Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University (AFSU) Faculty of Medicine Hospital.
He defeated the disease for the second time.Fadime Öziş told an AA reporter that she was diagnosed with cancer when she was 12 years old, and that difficult times began for her from that day on.
Öziş, who explained that he continued his education both in the hospital and at home, said that he always tried to keep his morale high with the support of his relatives.
Öziş stated that while she thought she had overcome the disease, her blood counts were high during a checkup a few years later. "I was very upset when I learned that the high-risk type of leukemia had recurred," she said. "I received chemotherapy. Then the transplant process began. My hearing-impaired sister received the transplant. She was also due for a wedding. They postponed it for me. I also want to thank the staff for their morale."
Mother Gülistan Öziş expressed her happiness that they had successfully overcome the difficult process that had lasted for years.
Dr. İbrahim Eker, Head of the Pediatric Hematology Department and Deputy Chief Physician at AFSÜ Faculty of Medicine, emphasized the successful bone marrow transplant process, saying, "Thankfully, we have brought the disease under control with treatment. The young girl is in excellent health."
