He died 4 hours after hip surgery

Engin Acar, a truck driver and father of three living in the city, underwent surgery at a private hospital where he applied with complaints of pain and calcification in his left hip bone. Four hours after the surgery on June 30, Acar fell ill and lost his life. After Engin Acar was laid to rest in Kabala Neighborhood of Artuklu district, his family filed a complaint with the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor and the Ministry of Health, accusing the hospital and medical personnel of negligence. According to the family’s claim, Acar, who had abnormal swelling and cold sweats on his body after the surgery, was seen to be making unconscious movements. The family claimed that despite the nurses being notified, intervention was delayed. Hospital officials stated that the death was not related to the surgery and that the final result would be revealed with the autopsy report.

"AFTER THE SURGERY, HIS BODY STARTED TO SWELL"

Engin Acar’s older brother Mesut Acar stated that his brother applied to the hospital with complaints of pain in his left leg and the diagnosis of arthritis, and said, “After the x-ray and MRI taken at the private hospital, the doctors said that surgery was necessary, that it was in the second stage and that a prosthesis would be required in the next stage. The surgery fee was collected and the procedures were carried out. We paid the fee on Friday and were given an appointment for surgery on June 30. He was taken into surgery. They said, ‘You can drink water 45 minutes after the surgery and eat food 2 hours later.’ My brother was given water 1 hour later and after taking a few bites of food 3 hours later, he started vomiting. We reported the situation to the nurse and they said, ‘It’s normal, he’s relaxed.’ His body was as cold as ice at that moment. He broke out in a cold sweat and his body started to swell. He started hitting his head against the wall and pulling his hair out.”
