HOSPITAL REPORT: PRISON CONDITIONS CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING

Çalık's hospital report stated that prison conditions could pose a life-threatening threat. The report included the following statements:

"The patient's leukopenia and neutropenia, severe weight loss (malnutrition), and a blast rate of 4-5% in the bone marrow biopsy, which is borderline for leukemia recurrence, may contribute to the increased risk of infection threatening leukemia recurrence due to prison conditions."

The report stated, "The patient is considered to be at high risk for leukemia recurrence and his sentence should be served at home."

It was reported that imprisoned Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık had previously battled cancer twice. Çalık reportedly lost 15 kilograms (30 pounds) since his arrest.
