Exercise may reduce side effects of cancer treatment
In the study conducted under the leadership of Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, data from randomized controlled trials published between 2012 and 2024 were brought together. Within the scope of the research, 485 different findings obtained from 80 scientific articles were analyzed.
According to the results of the study; aerobic and resistance training, high-intensity interval exercises, activities such as tai chi and yoga can significantly reduce side effects such as heart and nerve damage, brain fog and shortness of breath that develop due to cancer treatment. It was noted that exercise provides support to patients not only physically but also psychologically. It was stated that there was an increase in sleep quality, improvement in general body functions, increase in social interaction and a noticeable increase in quality of life.
"REGULAR EXERCISE BEFORE SURGERY REDUCES THE RISK OF COMPLICATIONS"The study reported that there was high-level evidence that regular exercise before surgery reduced the risk of postoperative complications, pain levels, length of hospital stay, and mortality.
The researchers stated the following regarding their results: “This study once again demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating exercise into cancer treatment protocols. Findings with moderate to high reliability show that exercise reduces treatment-related adverse effects, improves body structure and biological indicators, and increases quality of life.”
