Yucatán, host of the International Congress of Manual and Instrumental Physiotherapy

The city of Mérida became a mecca of advanced physiotherapy with the realization of the First Mexican Congress of Manual and Instrumental Physiotherapy, organized by the Mexican Association of Manual and Instrumental Physiotherapy (AMFI), on October 31 and November 1, 2025.
The event brought together 12 international and national speakers from four countries —Spain, the United States, the Netherlands and Mexico—, in a forum that combined academic lectures, clinical workshops and cultural activities for physiotherapists from all over the country.

The activities began at the UADY Faculty of Medicine with an opening ceremony presided over by its academic secretary, who emphasized the importance of connecting the university with high-level academic and scientific events. The official closing ceremony was led by Roberto Antonio Triay Espinosa, president of AMFI and general coordinator of the event.
Among the most prominent speakers are:
- Jan Dommerholt (Netherlands–USA), a global authority on the treatment of myofascial pain and author of Trigger Point Dry Needling .
- Ricardo Mayoral (Spain), pioneer of invasive physiotherapy in the Ibero-American field and author of the book Invasive Physiotherapy .
- Andoni Carrasco (Spain), clinical researcher, university professor and representative of Spain to the International Federation of Manipulative Orthopedic Physiotherapists (IFOMPT).
- Rheet Roberson (United States), consultant specializing in clinical mentoring, therapeutic leadership and organizational growth in physiotherapy teams.
The scientific committee of the congress was made up of the Mexican academics Dr. Armando Campos López, Mtra. Paulina Villanueva Meléndez and Mtro. Daniel Solís Ruiz, who gave rigor and structure to the academic program.
In addition to the presentations, intensive clinical workshops were offered at the university campuses of Anáhuac Mayab University, where attendees practiced manual, invasive and neuromodulatory physiotherapy techniques in a clinical environment supervised by experts.

As part of the closing, a Day of the Dead celebration was held, integrating participants into a unique cultural experience and strengthening professional ties between colleagues from across the continent.
The AMFI 2025 Congress is consolidating itself as an unprecedented event in southeastern Mexico, positioning Yucatán as a national and international benchmark in continuing education, research and specialization in advanced physiotherapy.
