Health Center to Offer Free Pap Smears in Mérida

To facilitate access to preventive health services, the Mérida Urban Health Center will hold free cervical cancer screening (Pap smears) every Friday this month.
The director of the Mérida Urban Health Center, Mario David Cuevas Tzuc , reported that testing will be offered at the center's facilities located on 50th Street and 67th Street, downtown, on Fridays the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, starting at 1 p.m.
These actions, he explained, are being carried out under the instructions of the head of the Yucatan Health Secretariat, Judith Elena Ortega Canto .
The service is free and is aimed at women aged 25 to 64, regardless of whether they have begun sexual activity, and especially those who have not been tested in the last year or have a family history of cervical cancer .
To be tested, you must present a copy of your INE (National Institute of Statistics) or CURP (Currency Program). It is also recommended that you arrive showered, have not had sexual intercourse in the last 72 hours, are not menstruating or have not used vaginal suppositories or douches, and wear comfortable clothing.
Service will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis , but you can schedule an appointment by calling 9993-54 90-77 to avoid waiting.
As part of this edition, information will be offered on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) test as a complementary screening tool, as well as guidance on sexual and reproductive health to provide comprehensive care.
Preventable
“Cervical cancer is preventable if detected early. These events aim to facilitate access to this test for all women who, for various reasons, have not been able to get it,” said Mario David Cuevas Tzuc, director of the Mérida Urban Health Center.
