Protect your eyes from the sun! What should you pay attention to when buying glasses?
When buying sunglasses, there are features that we need to keep in mind for our eye health, in addition to their aesthetic appeal. By taking these features into consideration, we can buy sunglasses that are economical, functional and fit our tastes. The Turkish Ophthalmology Association has listed the 7 most critical features to consider when choosing sunglasses as follows:
1- Look for the ultraviolet (UV) protection label. The most important feature to look for when purchasing sunglasses is that they have a label that indicates that they block 100% UV rays.
2- Bigger is better. The sunglasses we are considering buying will protect us better if they cover more area in our eye area. Prefer to buy large-sized glasses that block/prevent UV rays coming from the side of the eye.
3. Darker lenses do not provide better protection. Very dark lenses may look cool, but they do not block more UV rays. Look at how much UV the lens blocks, not just its color.
4- Lens color is not important. Some glasses have different colors such as yellow, green or gray. They do not block harmful rays better just because they look nice in different colors, but they can increase the image and color contrast, which can be useful for those who do sports .
