IVF or Insemination? Personalized treatment is essential for infertility

Gynecology, Obstetrics, and In Vitro Fertilization Specialist Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ferhat Ürünsak emphasized the need for personalized infertility treatment, saying, "For some couples, medication alone is sufficient, while for others, insemination is sufficient, while in some cases, in vitro fertilization is necessary. A correct diagnosis is the first step toward success."
WHAT IS INFERTILITY?Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse. Research suggests that approximately 15 out of every 100 couples experience this problem.
Prof. Dr. Ürünsak stated that the in vitro fertilization method offered by modern medicine is a great source of hope for couples who cannot have children, and provided important information about the causes of infertility and the treatment process.
INFERTILITY IS NOT JUST A WOMEN-RELATED PROBLEMAddressing the causes of infertility, Prof. Dr. Ürünsak said, "Approximately 37 percent of this condition is due to the woman, 8 percent to the man, and 35 percent to both partners. In the remaining 20 percent, no problem can be detected, and this is called 'unexplained infertility.' Therefore, it is extremely important for couples to be evaluated together."
TIME IS CRITICAL FOR WOMEN OVER 35Prof. Dr. Ürünsak emphasized the importance of a woman's age in treatment, stating, "If pregnancy doesn't occur within one year for women under 35, and within six months for women over 35, a specialist should be consulted. Those over 40 should be evaluated without delay. This is because egg quality and quantity decline with age, reducing the chance of pregnancy and increasing the risk of miscarriage and genetic disorders."
SPERM ANALYSIS MUST BE DONEÜrünsak also emphasized the importance of semen analysis in diagnosing infertility, saying, "This test evaluates sperm count, motility, and structure. Factors such as smoking, alcohol, stress, excess weight, and insomnia negatively impact fertility. A healthy lifestyle plays a critical role in treatment success."
IF THE TUBES ARE BLOCKED, THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY IS IVFÜrünsak stated that natural pregnancy cannot occur if the tubes in the female reproductive system are blocked, that this condition can be detected with a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and, if necessary, laparoscopy, and that in cases where the tubes are completely blocked, the most effective solution is in vitro fertilization.
THE RIGHT STEP MUST BE TAKEN FROM THE BEGINNINGProf. Dr. Ürünsak emphasized the importance of early diagnosis of the cause of infertility and management of the process with the right treatment, saying, "Tests are a guide in determining the source of the problem. This allows the most effective treatment to be initiated without unnecessary loss of time. Insemination and in vitro fertilization treatments can also be successful in cases of unexplained infertility."
PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT POSITIVELY AFFECTS THE TREATMENT PROCESSÜrünsak, noting that the infertility process can place significant emotional pressure on couples, said, "Couples supporting each other during this process, and seeking psychological help if necessary, positively impacts treatment success. It's crucial to manage the process consciously and patiently, without succumbing to despair."
