Check your settings now! Google has been hacked

In June, a hacking group called ShinyHunters hacked a Google employee and stole their login credentials. The hackers gained access to a Google database managed through the cloud platform.

According to a report in Dailymail, hackers have stolen numerous company and individual details. Using this information, the scammers are making fake phone calls and sending fake emails to users. Those who fall for this trap are handing over their personal and banking information to the scammers. Cybersecurity expert James Knight said that the scammers are posing as Google employees through emails and phone calls. "They're calling people, pretending to be from Google, and sending text messages to convince them to log in or get login codes," Knight said.

Knight warned against trusting text messages from Google: "If you get a text or voicemail from Google, don't trust it as being from Google. Nine times out of ten, it's probably not from Google."

The digital security expert also explained ways to protect against this cyber attack.

Knight said that anyone with a Gmail account should immediately check their sign-in settings and update their passwords if they use common or weak phrases. "First, make sure multi-factor authentication is set up. Second, make sure you have a unique, really strong password on that account. Third, do the Google security check. That's also important so they can identify the weakest spots in their account," he said.
