Cesarean section statement from specialist: 'It's not the method of birth that's important, but the health of the birth itself'

Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Associate Professor Dr. Fatma Ölmez stated that birth is a physiological process, saying, "Normal birth is a miracle bestowed upon women by nature. However, when there is a threat to the health of the mother or baby, a cesarean section should be preferred."
'NORMAL BIRTH IS PHYSIOLOGICAL AND MIRACULOUS'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez stated that vaginal birth is a natural process in the female body, saying, "Voluntary birth is the process of the baby being born vaginally, with uterine contractions and cervical dilation. For this physiological process to occur healthily, the mother and baby must be in the right condition." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez explained that vaginal birth is painful but manageable, adding, "Labor pain is a physiologically necessary process for the baby to come into the world. We utilize methods such as breathing techniques, pain management, and epidural anesthesia to manage this process. This allows us to make birth easier and more comfortable."
'CAESAREAN SECTION IS A LIFE-SAVING OPTION'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez emphasized the vital role of cesarean delivery in necessary situations, saying, “While vaginal delivery is physiologically ideal, in some cases, a cesarean section should be preferred for the health of the mother or baby. A cesarean section can be lifesaving, especially in cases where the mother has high blood pressure or is at risk of serious bleeding.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez explained that vaginal delivery after a cesarean section is possible but subject to certain conditions, adding, “At least 1.5-2 years must pass before vaginal delivery can be achieved after a cesarean section. This period is important for the healing of stitches from the previous birth. If the patient wishes to have a vaginal delivery after a cesarean section, we must definitely consider this period.”
'THERE SHOULD BE AT LEAST TWO YEARS BETWEEN BIRTHS'Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez emphasized the importance of the interval between births to protect the mother's health and protect the baby's rights, saying, "For the healthy development of both mother and baby, a minimum of 2-3 years between pregnancies is ideal. This period is crucial for the mother's recovery and the baby's healthy development. Patients who will have a vaginal delivery after a cesarean section should be monitored by a specialist. A mother who has had a previous cesarean section is likely to experience complications with the stitches in the previous locations during labor. Therefore, we advise our patients considering a vaginal delivery after a cesarean section to wait at least 1.5-2 years."
"IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EXPECTANT MOTHERS BE PHYSIOLOGICALLY PREPARED FOR BIRTH"Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez emphasized that birth is not just the process of bringing a baby into the world; it also signifies a woman's step into motherhood. "A safe and healthy birth is the most important criterion," he said. "Our priority is to have a healthy birth, not whether the birth is vaginal or cesarean. Providing accurate information and preparing expectant mothers physiologically for birth is crucial during this process." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ölmez emphasized that women have the capacity to give birth naturally, saying, "Birth is already a physiologically natural process of the female body. As physicians, we support this process. We provide the necessary training to help women manage labor pains effectively and prepare for the birth process."
