Beware of summer infections! Experts warn: "Our hands are the biggest source of infection"

Gastroenterology Specialist Prof. Dr. Esin Korkut, who said that intestinal infections have become an epidemic with the onset of heat, shared ways to spend the summer healthy with simple precautions.
Stating that summer infections most often manifest themselves with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Prof. Dr. Korkut said, “Unfortunately, we often transmit these infections ourselves. Our biggest source of infection is our hands. Therefore, washing hands with plenty of soap and water is the simplest but most effective method of protection.”
Prof. Dr. Korkut, who stated that not storing perishable foods such as meat, eggs and mayonnaise under hygienic conditions in hot weather causes health problems, said, “Do not consume foods consumed outside without being sure of the conditions under which they were prepared. Products with inappropriate storage conditions can invite poisoning. In healthy individuals who have summer infections, rest and plenty of fluids are often sufficient. However, in cases such as fever, bloody diarrhea or prolonged abdominal pain, a physician should definitely be consulted.”
Prof. Dr. Korkut, who touched on the importance of a high-fiber diet for intestinal health, said that fiber intake should be increased, especially in the summer months. He stated that consuming high-fiber foods and water both regulates intestinal habits and facilitates the elimination of toxins. Prof. Dr. Korkut said the following for those who want to lose weight in the summer months: “Those who want to lose weight should definitely proceed under the supervision of a dietician. Instead of starving, we recommend a balanced diet, a Mediterranean-style diet and exercise.”
