A patient whose aorta was punctured by a bone stuck in his throat regained his health after 7 surgeries.

During initial intervention, it was determined that Çanakçı had suffered a punctured aorta due to complications from a 22-millimeter chicken bone lodged in his throat, tearing his esophagus. Following this, Çanakçı began treatment and underwent seven surgeries.

Çanakçı, describing his experience to an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter, said, "We went on a family picnic, barbecued, and I was very hungry. The food was being prepared at that moment, and as I was quickly eating my chicken, a piece of bone got stuck in my throat. I called out to my brother, 'Brother, run,' and he gave me first aid. I experienced a headache, flushing, and weakness, and ended up in the hospital. I had a ruptured aorta, underwent seven surgeries, and was discharged after a month and a half. Thankfully, I'm fine and getting better every day. The recovery process was a bit challenging, but I overcame it."

"My son had dropped to 36 kilos"

Mother Saime Çanakçı stated that her son stayed in intensive care for three days and was intubated, and described what happened as follows:

My son went through a very difficult time. If he's here now, it's first a miracle from God, then the success of the doctors. He was operated on by more than 30 doctors, and God bless them all. My son weighed 52 kilos before this incident, but during this time, he dropped to 36 kilos. After being discharged, he gradually reached 40 kilos. We bring him to the hospital for checkups every two days. His condition is improving day by day.

"Our patient had a complication that could be one in a thousand."

Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Chest Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Bülent Koçer also stated that Çanakçı came to the hospital complaining of swallowing chicken bones, and noted the following:

"Our colleagues proceeded to remove the foreign object from the esophagus under emergency conditions, and the bone was successfully removed. We monitored our patient for any complications that might arise afterwards. Foreign objects lodged in the esophagus can cause infections that can lead to perforation, severe life-threatening medical conditions, and even death due to inflammation in the area."

Koçer stated that Çanakçı's health condition improved day by day after the chicken bone was removed from his esophagus, but he got worse before he was discharged, and continued:

Before discharging the patient, we wanted to perform an endoscopy for a checkup. On the day of the endoscopy, our patient reported feeling unwell. He experienced multiple oral bleeding, so we rushed him into surgery. We suspected that such significant bleeding might be caused by the connection between the aorta and the esophagus, which we call the carotid artery, and our prediction proved correct. Our patient experienced a complication that could be as low as one in a thousand. A canal formed from the carotid artery to the esophagus. To save the patient's life and control the bleeding, our colleagues from the cardiovascular surgery clinic intervened and a stent was placed in the aorta. After 40 days of treatment, our patient regained his health.
