Péricles loses 50 kg without surgery; specialist explains how it is possible

At 56, Péricles decided to change his life. The pagoda singer, with one of the most distinctive voices in Brazilian music, revealed that he lost 50 kg without bariatric surgery, simply through routine adjustments, discipline, and professional guidance. Standing at 1.90 m tall and currently weighing 160 kg, the singer said the transformation brought benefits that go far beyond the scale.
"I chose not to have bariatric surgery. I decided that if I gained weight this way, I'd lose it this way too. And I did, and it worked out really well for me. In my case, I decided to use exercise, medical supervision, and a healthy diet, and it worked really well," the singer said in an interview with Trip TV.
The change reflected not only his appearance but also his performance on stage. "I'm much more agile now. I can perform a two-hour show, pacing back and forth, with much more energy. This, in a way, has enhanced my performance," he stated.
For Patrick Novaes Aguiar , an expert in exercise physiology and former president of the Regional Council of Physical Education, the singer's career goes beyond music and becomes an example of overcoming adversity.
"Let's start with this one, which is sensational, right? Singer Péricles proves himself to be a great artist and a great motivator, not just on stage. He shows that with willpower, determination, and a dose of extra motivation—in his case, the birth of a daughter—it's possible to overcome obesity and have a better life. Stories like his inspire more than 50% of the Brazilian population who currently face some form of obesity, and more than 70% who live with overweight. So, Péricles' story is about motivating himself, showcasing himself in the press so that others are motivated to do the same," he explains to IstoÉ Gente .
According to the specialist, this result was only possible because Péricles had the support of different professionals and also family support.
"Péricles was certainly monitored by a doctor, a physical education professional, a nutritionist, and also a psychologist. In cases like this, it's common for this team to collaborate to arrive at the best weight-loss protocol for patients. In this case, Péricles obviously needed the support of his family and his entire social circle, because without them, he wouldn't have achieved the results he did. In other words, it's a behavioral change that the psychologist needs to monitor week by week, guiding, observing, and monitoring the hormonal issues and how he reacts day by day so he can stay committed to this process. But, fundamentally, family and friends were a key part of this project."
Patrick also emphasizes that the first benefits of this transformation appear quickly in everyday life. "The first benefits that singer Péricles certainly experienced in his weight loss process were everyday processes. A better night's sleep, better breathing, better energy, right? So, these are the immediate benefits that everyone who begins a weight loss process, begins the process of physical exercise, begins to experience. So, start with the simplest things: more energy, more joy, improved mood."
The long-term effects are even more significant for health. "The long-term benefits are life itself. When you lose weight, you reduce inflammation, you lower your blood pressure, you reduce cholesterol levels that harm your liver. Then your life will be longer, with greater quality."
