A 73-year-old patient died at Rydygier Hospital in Krakow several hours after taking medication intended for another patient. The case is being investigated by the District Prosecutor's Office in Nowa Huta, and the nurse who administered the medication has been dismissed for disciplinary reasons.

On December 11th of last year, 73-year-old Krystyna was admitted to the internal medicine ward of a Krakow hospital, Fakt reports. The patient had been ill with the flu and had been receiving home treatment for several days, but due to COPD, she decided to be hospitalized.
After some time, the patient felt better, but a tragic event occurred. The woman was given medication from another patient, and when she realized she had been given the wrong medication, she informed the staff. According to Fakt, the woman was ignored, and as a result, it was too late to save her – the patient suffered a cardiac arrest and died.
According to Fakt's findings, the District Prosecutor's Office in Nowa Huta is overseeing an investigation into the alleged exposure of Ms. Krystyna to imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm by administering medications not intended for her. All witnesses have been questioned, and other evidence has been gathered.
– In the aforementioned case, proceedings are being conducted regarding professional liability, however – due to the statutory presumption of innocence – there are currently no legal grounds to formulate clear positions on this issue – Bożena Grodny-Wilk, chairwoman of the ORPiP in Tarnów, told Fakt.
Moreover, after the death of a patient at the Ludwik Rydygier Specialist Hospital, an internal investigation was initiated, as a result of which the nurse Katarzyna Sz., who mixed up the medications, was dismissed for disciplinary reasons and other persons on duty in the ward were also punished.
