The number of sick people is rising – it's visible in doctors' offices. It starts innocently enough.

Dr. Muc said that last August, twice as many patients than usual came through his office.
- Most of them came with problems that started during their vacation: infections after casual sexual contact, complications resulting from neglecting medication for chronic diseases, or dehydration leading to kidney stones - said Dr. Muc.
High temperatures, dehydration, and poor hygiene promote the growth of bacteria. Dehydration is particularly dangerous, as it not only hinders the flushing of pathogens but also promotes the formation of kidney stones.
- A change in the nature of urination, i.e. frequency of urination, burning, urethral discharge, redness of the urethral opening or pain in the perineal area are alarm signals - warned Dr. Muc.
He added that patients often ignore the first symptoms and only go to the doctor when the infection is advanced.
- The fear of visiting a urologist makes a man wait an average of six months with symptoms before deciding on treatment - he emphasized.
He appealed not to ignore the first symptoms and not to postpone a visit to a specialist.
Basic diagnostics include urinalysis, culture, complete blood count, and CRP. In more advanced cases or in men over 40, PSA testing and urinary tract ultrasound are also performed.
"This is our urological ABC. A history, physical examination, urine and blood analysis, and diagnostic imaging provide a complete picture of the situation and allow for the rapid implementation of effective treatment," he noted.
He emphasized that alcohol consumption also weakens the functioning of the nervous system , and drugs destroy blood vessels in the genitals.
The doctor also reminded that summer is also a time of increased risk of sexually transmitted infections . He added that the lack of condom use increases the number of cases of viral and bacterial diseases, including serious infections such as HPV, HIV, and syphilis .
Experts remind us of basic rules that can help avoid health problems. These include:
- taking care of intimate hygiene,
- avoiding wearing wet swimming trunks for long periods of time,
- daily hydration of the body,
- using condoms,
- regular testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
