Prof. Marcin Adamczak from SUM, president of the Polish Society of Nephrology

SUM explains that on June 12-14, 2025, the 15th Congress of the Polish Society of Nephrology was held at the International Congress Center in Katowice under the patronage of the Rector of SUM, Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Tomasz Szczepański. The PTN Congress is the most important event of the nephrology community and takes place every 3 years.

As reported, one of the reasons for choosing Katowice as the location for the congress is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Department and Clinic of Nephrology, Transplantology and Internal Medicine of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice, which falls this year. The congress was attended by over 600 nephrologists from all over Poland.

The Scientific Committee of the Congress has prepared a scientific program, including lectures and workshops on numerous aspects of contemporary nephrology, including interdisciplinary sessions organized, among others, in cooperation with the Section of Preventive Cardiology and Epidemiology of the Polish Cardiac Society.

On June 13, 2025, during the General Meeting of PTN Members, new authorities of the society were elected for the term of office 2025-2028:

• the president of the Polish Society of Neurological and Social Sciences was prof. dr hab. n. med. Marcin Adamczak (Silesian Medical University in Katowice),
• Vice-President: Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Beata Naumnik (Medical University of Białystok),
• Secretary: Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Ilona Kurnatowska (Medical University of Lodz).

The following were elected to the PTN Main Board:

• Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Zbigniew Heleniak (Medical University of Gdansk),
• Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Dorota Kamińska (Wrocław University of Technology),
• Dr. Hab. n. med. Prof. UJ Katarzyna Krzanowska (Jagiellonian University),
• Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Ewa Kwiatkowska (Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin),
• prof. dr hab. n. med. Krzysztof Mucha (Medical University of Warsaw).

The following were elected to the Society’s Main Audit Committee:

• Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Tomasz Hryszko (Medical University of Białystok),
• Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Mariusz Kusztal (Medical University of Wrocław),
• prof. dr hab. n. med. Tomasz Stompór (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn).

The function of the PTN Treasurer was entrusted to Dr. Damian Gojowy, MD (Silesian Medical University in Katowice).
