Regulations introducing electronic documentation in emergency medical services have been published in the Journal of Laws. They will take effect on July 26, but include a transition period.
- From January 1, 2026, medical records in emergency medical services will be kept exclusively in electronic form.
- The Journal of Laws published two regulations on this matter
- The solution being introduced is intended to improve the circulation of documentation, increase the availability of data and reduce the need to print them.
Two regulations amending the provisions on electronic medical records have been published in the Journal of Laws. These include an amendment to the regulations on the types of electronic medical records and on the types, scope, and templates of medical records and the method of their processing.
The regulations introduce electronic documentation in emergency medical services. They are intended to streamline documentation flow, increase data accessibility for patients and healthcare providers, and reduce the need to print paper documentation.
The first regulation assumes the introduction of electronic medical documentation in the form of an e-card for medical rescue activities and an e-medical card for the air rescue team.
The second regulation assumes that the medical rescue card and the medical card of the air rescue team will be generated in the State Emergency Medical Services Command Support System and made available as electronic documentation to persons or entities authorized to obtain them.
Paragraph 46, paragraph 2, point 1 also grants emergency medical teams the right to access the historical medical rescue records and the medical records of the air ambulance team created for a given patient if "this is necessary to ensure the execution of the emergency medical team's departure or departure order." Furthermore, these documents are made available to:
- to another healthcare entity, via the IT system, in the event of the patient being transported to it,
- to the patient or his/her legal representative or authorized person via the Online Patient Account.
Both regulations amending the regulations were published on Friday , November 11. They will come into effect 14 days after publication.
However, they provide for a transition period. Until December 31, 2025, both cards (emergency medical services and air ambulance medical team) can be maintained and made available under the current rules.
This will allow the e-Health Centre and the National Emergency Medical Services Monitoring Centre to adapt the State Emergency Medical Services Command Support System to the changes introduced by the regulation.
