On July 11, we annually celebrate the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide committed by Ukrainian nationalists against citizens of the Second Polish Republic. This day is a national holiday, but it is not a statutory day off from work.
The holiday was established to commemorate the victims of the genocide in Volhynia in Eastern Lesser Poland. The date chosen was the anniversary of the so-called Bloody Sunday of 1943, when the largest wave of murders of Poles occurred in Volhynia.
New days off from work. There are lots of ideasVarious institutions in Poland regularly receive ideas for introducing new non-working days, for example in the form of petitions.
In April 2025, a petition was submitted to the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Family, which called for the introduction of 6 additional days off from work . The chances of its positive consideration by the current or future president are assessed as slim, mainly due to the expected political and economic resistance.
