An aggressive patient who attacked a nurse in a Lublin hospital last Thursday (July 10) has been charged with violating his privacy. He faces up to three years in prison, police announced on Saturday.
- Police were called to the scene. Officers arrested the attacker.
- The man was charged with violating bodily integrity and insulting a public official.
- He faces a penalty of up to 3 years in prison.
The attack on the nurse occurred on Thursday, July 9th. An intoxicated 50-year-old man was brought to a Lublin hospital with injuries. An ambulance took him from a city street.
– While he was being examined, the man behaved aggressively and attacked the nurse – he scratched her, grabbed her by the neck and choked her – said Deputy Commissioner Kamil Karbowniczek from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Lublin.
Police were called to the scene. They arrested the attacker, who also insulted the intervening officers.
The man was taken to the prosecutor's office, where he was charged with violating personal inviolability and insulting a public official. Under the Penal Code, this offense carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.
"By decision of the prosecutor's office, he was placed under police supervision. He was also fined two times for using vulgar language and disobeying officer orders," Karbowniczek said.
Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna recently announced that a draft amendment to the Penal Code, which would increase penalties for attacks on healthcare workers, may be considered at one of the upcoming government meetings. The amendment will then be submitted to the Sejm for consideration.
The project provides special protection not only to public officials, but also to those who take action to save lives and health - including paramedics, firefighters and citizens responding to emergency situations.
For violating personal inviolability, the perpetrator will be subject to a penalty of imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.
