Doctors' and nurses' salaries. AOTMiT president: 95 percent earn at least the statutory minimum wage.

- More than 90 percent of healthcare facility employees classified in groups 2, 5 and 6 received pay raises from July 1 this year.
- 95% of nurses and midwives earn at least the statutory minimum wage
- - In the case of doctors working full-time, the median salary of specialists with all benefits is PLN 22,000 gross - calculates Daniel Rutkowski, president of AOTMiT
Every year, the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System collects data from healthcare entities to estimate the financial impact of the July indexation of the lowest wages in healthcare.
- From the data currently obtained, we can see that in some professional groups, practically the majority of employees earn at the level of the statutory minimum - said Daniel Rutkowski, president of AOTMiT, in an interview with Rynek Zdrowia .
This is most often the case in group 2 of the pay table, which includes nurses and midwives with higher education and specialization, pharmacists, physiotherapists, laboratory diagnosticians, who earn at the minimum level specified for this group (currently PLN 10,554.42 gross).
The situation is similar in groups 5 and 6, which are mostly composed of nurses and midwives with a master’s degree or specialization and with a bachelor’s degree or secondary education without specialization (PLN 8,345.35 and PLN 7,690.82 gross, respectively).
"Over 90% of employees in these groups have received pay raises of over 14% since July 1st. In the case of nurses and midwives, this applies to 95% of employees," Rutkowski explains.
It states that nurses and midwives employed on a full-time basis are classified as:
- 28 percent of them in group 2.
- 34 percent - in group 5.
- 38 percent - in group 6.
- Their average total gross remuneration with benefits is PLN 13,500, PLN 10,900 and PLN 9,600, respectively - adds the president of AOTMiT.
1/4 of specialist doctors in the public system are employed under an employment contractIn the case of doctors working full-time, most of them earn more than the minimum specified for group 1 (doctor or dentist with specialization PLN 11,863.49).
- The median salary of specialists with all benefits, i.e. with seniority and average duty time, is PLN 22,000 gross - says Rutkowski.
The President stipulates that only 1/4 of specialist doctors in the public system are employed under employment contracts, and 3/4 under civil law contracts.
"It's harder to calculate here – we know what the average salary is in a single facility. It's 25,000 PLN gross, including benefits. But it's difficult to verify how many locations this doctor works," Rutkowski admits.
"The data shows that there are several hundred doctors— between 450 and 500— whose salaries exceed 100,000 złoty per full-time position. But as I mentioned, our data is anonymized, meaning we can't calculate how much a given person earns, only how much they earn in a given facility," he adds.
