On January 1, 2025, the minimum wage increased to PLN 4,666 gross. This higher wage also means, among other things, a change in the basis for calculating sickness benefits. Therefore, people on sick leave will receive higher sick pay.
- Sickness benefit amounts to 80% of the calculation basis, but may be 100% due to pregnancy, for example.
- The increase in the minimum wage translates directly into the basis for calculating the benefit
- The daily rate of sickness benefit in 2025 is approximately PLN 134.21
It's worth noting that the basis for calculating sickness benefits is closely linked to the minimum wage. As of January 1, 2025, those earning the minimum wage can expect to receive PLN 4,666 gross per month. This is PLN 366 more than the wage that was in effect as of July 1, 2024.
Also from January 2025, employees on sick leave can count on higher sick pay. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy reminds that the sick pay amount is 80% of the calculation basis, or 100% of the calculation basis if the incapacity for work arose:
- as a result of an accident on the way to or from work,
- during pregnancy,
- as a result of undergoing the necessary medical examinations provided for candidates for donors of cells, tissues and organs or the procedure of collecting cells, tissues and organs.
The basis for calculating sickness benefit is the amount of the minimum wage reduced by 13.71%, i.e. contributions deducted by the employer for pension, disability and sickness insurance.
The calculations are as follows:
- 13.71% of contributions should be deducted from the minimum wage, which gives PLN 4,026.30,
- this amount should be divided into 30 days - finally we receive PLN 134.21 per day for sick leave .
It is worth adding that ZUS pays for the employee's absence when his or her incapacity for work lasts longer than 33 days, and for the earlier period the employer does so.
