Centaio, make food for cancer patients tax-deductible

"On the occasion of the conversion of the 'Economy' decree, the government accepted a motion of mine aimed at making the expenses of foods for special medical purposes, used as a complementary treatment for cancer treatments, tax-deductible. This is an important commitment made by the government, which would help reduce the costs incurred by patients already facing a difficult disease," explained Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice President of the Senate and Senator for the League.
"Those undergoing pharmacological, surgical, or radiotherapy treatments to combat cancer may find themselves malnourished, due to the treatments they undergo. This risks compromising the progression of the disease and worsening the patient's quality of life. Foods for special medical purposes, prescribed by medical personnel, are designed to prevent this from happening. Yet current regulations do not allow for their deductibility for income tax purposes," Centinaio continues.
"I wanted to propose this motion to address what I believe to be a regulatory flaw, and as soon as the opportunity arises, I will submit an amendment introducing a 19 percent tax deductibility for expenses incurred for the purchase of foods for special medical purposes starting in 2026. I am confident that the government will honor its commitment," concludes the League senator.
