What did Verónica Echegui die of at the age of 42?

Today, Monday, August 25, the death of Verónica Fernández de Echegaray , better known as Verónica Echegui , was announced. The actress died this Sunday at the age of 42, according to sources who informed El País.

Echegui was born in Madrid in 1983, the daughter of an engineer and a lawyer. She stood out from an early age for her versatility in portraying all kinds of characters. Her breakthrough came in 2006 with the release of Yo soy la Juani (I Am Juani ). The impact earned her a Goya nomination for Best New Actress. The Madrid native had previously appeared in A New Life and Paco y Veva (Paco and Veva) , however, it was with this leading role that her career really took off.

As an actress, she filmed The Yard of My Jail, Katmandu, A Mirror in the Sky, Don't Blame Karma for What Happens to You Because You're an Idiot, and Six Points About Emma . She also worked with Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day .

She was filled with Goya nominations related to her acting, however, it wasn't until Tótem Loba in 2022 that she won the statuette for best fiction short film of that edition, which she directed, wrote, and co-produced.

Echegui 's last appearance was in an Apple TV+ romantic comedy called A Muerte , which premiered earlier this year.

According to El País, Verónica Echegui suffered from cancer —although the variant of the disease was not specified—which forced her to be hospitalized in recent days and ultimately led to her death at the age of 42.
