The odd ingredient you can add to your coffee that ‘makes you feel full'

For some of us, a cup of coffee is a compulsory part of our morning routine. Whether it is an espresso, a cappuccino or just white or black coffee, the beverage provides a much needed kick. But one variation can have more benefits, including making you feel full. Bulletproof coffee, also referred to as butter coffee, is a high-calorie version of the drink with added fat. It is designed to fuel the start of your day by replacing breakfasts containing lots of carbohydrates.
Its creator is the same man who came up with the Bulletproof diet, Dave Asprey, an American entrepreneur and author. The coffee has become a go-to with those following low-carb and keto diets, and contains unsalted butter and a medium chain triglyceride, like that from coconut oil. These ingredients are added to the coffee, and the drink ends up resembling a creamy latte.
The carb-rich cereals and pastries that many people tend to have for their first meal of the day disrupt blood sugar levels, meaning they can end up craving another sugary snack by mid-morning, the inventor of the coffee variation says.
What are the other potential benefits? Well, goodFOOD writes that one 2021 study found that it was no better than black coffee as regards to improving people’s cognitive performance.
Although, benefits were seen in making sure people felt fuller for longer, with a 250 calorie bulletproof coffee “increased feelings of satiety and reduced the expectation of food consumption after three hours”.
Experts add: “Key components of bulletproof coffee include fats from butter and MCT oil, these appear to quash appetite, stabilise hunger and provide calories to fuel your morning.
“As well as being calorie-rich, butter supplies fat soluble vitamins including A, D and K, is a source of gut-friendly butyrate and supplies conjugated fats, which may help improve body fat composition.”
