OpenAI's 'browser' move! ChatGPT rivals Google Chrome

OpenAI's 'browser' move! ChatGPT rivals Google Chrome

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser based on ChatGPT. Atlas is positioned as a browser that integrates artificial intelligence directly into the web, analyzing user behavior, and offering features like summarization and data analysis in a sidebar.

With a paid option called "Agent Mode," ChatGPT can interact with websites on the user's behalf and automatically complete transactions. The demo showed ChatGPT finding a recipe and adding ingredients to an online cart.

Atlas is initially released exclusively for macOS, with versions for Windows, iOS, and Android to follow later. Alphabet shares fell 1.8 percent following the announcement.

Although Chrome still holds a 71.9 percent market share, Atlas could accelerate AI-powered browser competition, impacting digital ad revenues, experts say.
