Canada loses measles-free status due to rising measles cases

Canada loses measles-free status due to rising measles cases

Canada has reportedly lost its "measles-free" status due to the increasing number of measles cases across the country over the past year.

In a statement made by the Canadian government, it was pointed out that the increase in measles cases, which has continued to spread across the country since October 2024, continues.

The statement noted that although the rate of transmission of the virus has slowed recently, the epidemic has continued for more than 12 months, especially in communities with low vaccination rates.

The statement noted that the same strain of measles virus has been spreading across the country for more than a year, and that Canada has lost its "measles-free country" status.

The statement noted that Canada could regain this status if the measles virus seen in the current outbreak is found not to spread for at least 12 months.
