Be careful! It can cause cancer even years later.
Yilmaz, who is also a faculty member at the Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases, said that the sun is the source of life but it also causes skin cancer, wrinkles and premature aging.
SUN DAMAGE ACCUMULATES FROM INFANTRYExpressing that sun damage begins to accumulate from infancy, Yılmaz said, "The effects of sunburns remain on the skin throughout life. After a while, sun damage begins to show itself with spots, skin deformities, wrinkles or cancer. It starts with the sun exposure when the baby is 5-6 months old and the damage begins to show itself years later."
Yilmaz emphasized that a culture of strict protection from sunlight should be developed, especially between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00, when the sun is most intense.
SUNSCREEN ALONE IS NOT ENOUGHYılmaz, who pointed out the importance of sunscreens as well as hats, long-sleeved shirts and umbrellas, said, "There is a question in society, 'What will happen to our vitamin D?' The light coming to our arms and legs is enough for vitamin D production, the sun you get while walking outside is more than enough. Therefore, we definitely recommend sun protection at other times."
Yilmaz mentioned that as part of the "Euromelanoma Project", which they, as an association, carry out in collaboration with dermatologists in Europe, they draw attention to sun damage by using the image of a baby's face on one side and an aged and sick human face on the other.
"HUMAN SKIN DOES NOT FORGET THE DAMAGE FROM THE SUN"Expressing that they clearly emphasized the damage and changes caused by the sun with the visual and that some people were affected by this, Yilmaz said: "We are most afraid of short-term vacations. During a 4-5 day vacation, first, second degree or blistering sunburns can occur because people want to 'get a tan' as soon as possible. Every hour is important, the patient must definitely see a doctor without delay. If there is sunstroke, it also requires intervention. The human skin does not forget the damage caused by the sun. If people who have severe sunburns that cause blistering develop spots on their backs in the future, they must definitely be followed up by a dermatologist. Because after sunburn, it increases the risk of developing melanoma (skin cancer), the most dangerous type of cancer in the human body. The spread rate of melanoma is very high, it is a deadly type of cancer."
Yilmaz, for example, recommends that someone who has had a severe sunburn at the age of 10, 15 or 20 be careful in later years, saying, "Even 2, 3, 5, 10 or even 20 years after sunburn, the risk of developing melanoma in those burned areas on the back will continue. If there is a stain, it should be recorded in the clinic, and the images should be compared at certain intervals and followed up. If there is a change in the image, we have to remove the entire stain and send it to pathology."
