Activity of 31 health establishments suspended

The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) revealed this Tuesday that it has suspended the operations of 31 health establishments over the past three years. Most were beauty salons, medical clinics, and dental practices.
"In the last three years — 2022, 2023, 2024 —, the ERS suspended the health activity of 31 health care providers, in addition to the seven precautionary measures adopted in 2025," the regulator added.
According to the ERS, the suspension of these establishments' activities was due to reasons such as the lack of qualifications and skills of professionals and failure to comply with the minimum requirements for sterilization of medical devices, management of hospital waste and facilities and equipment.
The ERS explained that the suspension of activity is a provisional measure adopted by the regulator when non-conformities are detected in the operation of regulated establishments in “gross violation of legal and regulatory obligations” and which may cause serious and irreparable danger, or difficult to repair, to the health and public safety of users and professionals.
These measures consist of determining the total or partial suspension of healthcare activity in a healthcare establishment for a certain period of time, the regulator added.
If the entity responsible for the establishment presents the appropriate corrections to eliminate the danger to the health and safety of users, the suspended activity may be resumed, but if this does not happen, it will be permanently ceased.
“Failure to comply with a precautionary measure to suspend activity constitutes the entity responsible for the health establishment committing an administrative offense, and may also constitute a crime of disobedience,” warned the ERS, cited by the Lusa news agency.
