People are afraid of the new health resort. Beautiful facilities are empty

  • The Górowo Iławeckie commune has implemented a health resort investment in the picturesque town of Nowa Wieś Iławecka.
  • Now the local government is looking for willing operators, but there are none.
  • The concession would cover the operation of a newly built, fully equipped spa infrastructure and the perpetual usufruct of an adjacent plot of land for the construction of a facility with a residential complex for spa guests.

The facility in Nowa Wieś Iławecka has been ready since the end of last year. It contains fully equipped facilities with spa infrastructure, as well as brine graduation towers. There is also a plot of land for the construction of a facility with a residential complex for spa guests.

The commune lists the advantages of the place:

  • location in one of the cleanest regions of Poland, in the northern part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. As much as 80 percent of the area is covered by the Natura 2000 Ostoja Warmińska network.
  • There is only one health resort in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship – in Gołdap, located approx. 150 km from Górowo Iławeckie.
  • In 2016, Nowa Wieś Iławecka was included in the health resort protection area, which opens up broad prospects for the development of health and tourist services.
  • About 10 km away there is a medical services centre of regional importance – the Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital in Górowo Iławeckie, 25 km away there is the District Hospital in Bartoszyce.
  • Nearby there are some of the largest deposits of therapeutic mud in Poland, “Wojciechy – B”, with proven healing properties.

There is a lack of investors for the health resort. The commune can take care of the administration itself

The mayor of Górowo Iławeckie, Krzysztof Baran, told Radio Olsztyn that the health resort is to be opened in the coming months. He admitted that there are no willing investors for now.

The facility is fully equipped, so I think it will go in the right direction. The least effective option will be for the municipality to administer this facility directly. However, I think that even if we start doing this, eventually some entity will appear, whether public or private, that will want to support this infrastructure with its experience.

- says the mayor.

One of the main problems of the commune is the lack of a hotel base, because - as the mayor admitted - in the current geopolitical situation, no one wants to invest.

The subsidy for the commune is PLN 40 million. Will the money have to be returned?

The entire infrastructure was implemented thanks to funding from the Regional Operational Program of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship as part of projects. Its value is approximately PLN 50 million, of which the funding amounted to approximately PLN 40 million.

Due to the requirements of projects co-financed by the European Union, it is necessary to maintain the durability of the project for 5 years, i.e. the infrastructure cannot be sold during this period, it is necessary to maintain the indicators: number of visits: minimum 1,665 people/year and employment status: 14 people. If they are not met, the gina will have to return the subsidy.

According to Radio Olsztyn, the commune plans to transport patients to the spa after it opens, including from nearby hospitals in Górowo Iławeckie and Bartoszyce.
