Dr. hab. n. med. Krzysztof Dowgierd, professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, has been appointed national consultant in the field of maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Krzysztof Dowgierd, MD, PhD, professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, has been appointed by the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna, as the National Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has held this position since July 15, 2025.
Prof. Krzysztof Dowgierd is an experienced specialist and a recognized expert in the field of craniofacial reconstruction in children and adults.
On July 14, Professor Mariusz Szut's term in office ended. He is currently the director of the Institute of Dentistry at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow. He has been a national consultant in maxillofacial surgery since June 2, 2015.
The scientific career and professional achievements of the new national consultantProf. Krzysztof Dowgierd:
- graduated from the Medical University of Gdańsk;
- he obtained his PhD in medical sciences in 2016 (scientific work on the use of a palatal distractor in the treatment of maxillary constriction, which he was the first to introduce to the Polish market);
- he began specializing in maxillofacial surgery in 2000, completing his residency in Olsztyn;
- in the first years of his scientific career he held the position of assistant at the Department of Surgery for Children and Adolescents at the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw (under the supervision of Prof. Zofia Dudkiewicz);
- since 2008 he has been the head of the Craniofacial Anomalies Center and the head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the Provincial Specialist Children's Hospital in Olsztyn;
- researcher at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn; author of numerous scientific publications, including articles in renowned international journals and chapters in books on orthognathic and maxillofacial surgery;
- conducts scientific research focused on: - innovative methods of craniofacial reconstruction , including the use of microsurgical facial reconstruction in children and - the use of individual 3D-printed implants in children, including temporomandibular joint prostheses;
- is a renowned specialist in orthognathic surgery;
- The scientist's particular interests include the use of osteodistraction in the treatment of craniofacial defects in children and adolescents;
- He completed internships abroad in prestigious centers, including: - Craniofacial Center at Seattle Children's Hospital in the USA, - Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic in Zurich,
- in research centers: Belgium, France, Spain and India.
- conducts courses and training for doctors, is a member of many Polish and foreign scientific societies;
- the scientist is involved in charity work, collaborating with many medical centers in Ukraine and working to improve surgical care for children and adolescents;
- awarded with numerous prizes and certificates, including: - Patient Laureate,
- Golden Scalpel.
