Doctor dies in Krakow. Hospital directors call for urgent actions to really improve safety

• A doctor who was attacked on Tuesday, April 29, at the university hospital in Krakow has died.
• A medic was attacked by a knife-man. The 35-year-old attacker was arrested
• As the hospital director said, it was a patient who was dissatisfied with the course of treatment.
• - We express our strong indignation and opposition to any form of violence in healthcare facilities - wrote the representatives of the Board of the National Association of District Hospital Employers in a statement

- We strongly condemn all violence against medical personnel. A hospital must be a safe place – for patients and those who provide assistance. OZPSP will always stand on the side of the safety of hospitals and the people who create them – declared the directors on the X portal.

- It is with great sadness and deep emotion that we received the news of the tragic death of a doctor who was attacked while on duty at the University Hospital in Krakow. On behalf of the Board of the National Association of District Hospital Employers, we express our deepest condolences to the Family, Loved Ones and Colleagues of the Deceased - the association wrote in a statement issued after the tragedy at the University Hospital in Krakow.

At the same time, he expressed outrage and a strong opposition to any form of violence in healthcare facilities. - Such dramatic events are completely unacceptable in places that should be a space of trust, care for the health and life of patients - emphasized OZPSP.

- The OZPSP Board consistently stands guard over the safety of all staff – the foundation of the functioning of district hospitals. Protecting healthcare workers means protecting patients. There is no consent to any threat to people who every day with dedication help others – added the directors.

At the same time, they called for urgent and decisive legislative and organizational actions that will actually increase the level of safety in Polish hospitals.

A doctor at the Krakow University Hospital was attacked on Tuesday at around 10:30 a.m. A 35-year-old man burst into the office where he was examining a patient and attacked the doctor with a knife. The attacker was caught by security, the man is in police hands.

The attacked medic could not be saved.

The president and prime minister, among others, expressed their condolences to the doctor’s relatives.
