Contents

Voivodeship Specialist Hospital No. 4 in Bytom has received nearly PLN 30 million from the Ministry of Health to modernize its Mental Health Center. This is the largest investment in the facility's history, and will include a complete renovation of its wards and the purchase of modern therapeutic equipment. These changes are intended to improve both patient treatment and staff work conditions.

– This is the largest investment funding the hospital has ever received – emphasized the facility’s director, Mariusz Kokosza.

The hospital in Bytom received PLN 29.2 million from the Medical Fund's Strategic Infrastructure Fund. This will enable a comprehensive modernization of the Mental Health Center – from building renovations to equipping it with modern medical and therapeutic equipment.

As part of the investment, the number of beds in the Psychiatry Ward will increase from 40 to 45. New patient rooms will be created, including seven three-person rooms, four four-person rooms, one five-person room, and three single-person rooms with monitoring and full bathroom facilities. An isolation ward will also be added, adapted to treat patients requiring special care.

– The rooms where patients are isolated will be equipped to ensure their safety, while fully respecting their rights and dignity – assures the hospital management.

The new rooms will be comfortable, safe, and private. Workflow will also be improved – staff stations will be located right next to patient rooms, improving supervision and safety.

– A very important part of this investment is the purchase of equipment for modern forms of treatment – emphasizes Wojciech Sołtys, deputy director of the Mental Health Center.

The hospital will have devices for:

  • electroconvulsive therapy (ECT),

  • transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS),

  • biofeedback therapy,

  • phototherapy.

These methods are used in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and psychosis, among other conditions. These modern techniques are intended not only to increase treatment effectiveness but also to shorten hospitalization times.

The renovation will also include the Psychiatry Day Unit and the Mental Health Clinic. Waiting space will be expanded, and the consulting rooms will be equipped with modern equipment. Equipment purchased includes breathalyzers, defibrillators, EEG and EKG machines, and infusion pumps.

The entire project will be complemented by the purchase of furniture and medical equipment for rooms and offices.

The changes will benefit not only current patients. The Mental Health Center in Bytom also serves as a training center, including in clinical psychology and adult psychiatry. It has 12 specialization slots and educates future staff for the mental health system.

Design work will begin in 2025, and the investment is scheduled for completion in 2029. The hospital's own contribution is just under PLN 300,000.
