An important resolution from the ministerial council. A new team will review the act on the psychotherapist profession.

- The Mental Health Council at the Minister of Health wants the parliamentary draft law on the psychotherapist profession to be dealt with by a special working group
- On November 4, the Council adopted a resolution on this matter
- The team would also be responsible for coordinating work on both the draft law on the profession of psychotherapist and the profession of psychologist.
- Błazej Kmieniak from the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights reminds us about the Ombudsman's doubts regarding the regulation of the psychotherapist profession
- The Commissioner for Human Rights believes that people with any master's degree should not be allowed to enter the profession
- He also believes that it is necessary to review the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic approaches by an independent body, e.g. one similar in its operation to the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System
An important step in the legislative process! The Minister of Health's Mental Health Council has adopted a resolution recommending the establishment of a working group to review the parliamentary draft of the Psychotherapy Profession Act, the Working Group for the Psychotherapy Profession Act announced on social media.
The Team's task is also to coordinate work on the draft law on the profession of psychotherapist and the profession of psychologist.
- This is an important moment for the psychotherapist community and all those involved in building transparent, coherent legal regulations - wrote the Working Group.
The Commissioner for Human Rights recalls the position. The profession of psychotherapist is not every master's degree away. The Commissioner for Human Rights' Chief Coordinator for Mental Health, Błażej Kmieciak, attended the Council meeting on November 4th. As reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights, the following topics were discussed during the meeting:
- The Mental Health Council recommends the establishment of a working group.
- The draft law regulates the profession of psychotherapist and psychologist.
- The Commissioner for Human Rights draws attention to the lack of educational requirements.
During the discussion, Błażej Kmieciak specifically addressed the work on a bill intended to regulate the professional practice of psychotherapists. In this context, he highlighted the opinion of the Commissioner for Human Rights submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland on this bill . The comments addressed, among other things, access to the profession, educational principles, the principles of providing services to children, and the functioning of the new body, the Commissioner for Psychotherapists' Rights.
In his opinion, the Commissioner for Human Rights pointed out that the draft law effectively proposes the possibility of specialized training for individuals without any experience or education focused on helping others. "This situation is the only known example in Poland of allowing training at a similar, expert level without appropriate basic education," we read.
The project initiator, responding to the allegations regarding this issue, pointed out that the key element in the work of a psychotherapist is his or her personality and personal predispositions, and also pointed to the need for continuity in the work of psychotherapists, of whom there are approximately 22,000 in Poland and who have very different basic education - they include psychologists, educators, doctors, but also, for example, theologians, sociologists and philosophers.
- Without denying that the personality of a psychotherapist is important, it is necessary to emphasize the importance of having specific, scientific knowledge that will enable them to act in a professional manner - wrote the Commissioner for Human Rights.
He stated that it is worth considering limiting the possibility of undergoing training to a group of people with higher education in a specific field, which is the basis for further actions taken in
in relation to a person experiencing a mental health crisis. This applies in particular to psychologists, educators, special education teachers, graduates of social work, rehabilitation, and family studies, as well as individuals with medical and nursing training, particularly in fields such as psychiatry, neurology, and pediatrics.
