Currently, the care allowance is PLN 348 per month and is granted ex officio to people over 75. Others can apply for this benefit. In 2026, eligible individuals will be able to count on a slightly higher amount.
- In June, the Council of Ministers adopted a proposal to increase the indexation rate of pensions and disability pensions.
- The indexation in 2026 will be at the level of 20% of the real increase in the average salary in 2025.
- As a result, from 1 March 2026, pensions, annuities and other benefits subject to indexation will increase.
- This means that if the forecasts are confirmed, the care allowance will also increase.
The care allowance is payable to a person who:
- is completely incapable of work and independent living or
- turned 75 years old.
It's worth remembering that people over 75 receive the care allowance ex officio. They don't need to submit a health certificate, as the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will automatically grant them the care allowance and pay the money along with their pension.
Other individuals must submit an appropriate application if the medical examiner determines that the individual is completely incapable of work and independent living. In 2025, the nursing allowance is PLN 348.22, while a war invalid who is completely incapable of work and independent living is entitled to PLN 522.33 per month.
Care allowance in 2026. Possible forecastsAs Infor.pl recalls, on June 12, the Council of Ministers adopted a proposal to increase the indexation rate of pensions and disability benefits in 2026 to 20% of the real increase in average wages in 2025.
As a consequence – assuming the above government announcements – from March 1, 2026 , pensions, annuities and other benefits subject to indexation using the pension and disability benefit indexation index will increase by at least 4.9%. Infor.pl notes that if the forecasts are confirmed, the care allowance will increase to PLN 365.28 .
However, the final value of the indexation rate will only be known in February 2026.
Care allowance and care allowanceIn the case of care allowance , it is granted to partially cover the expenses resulting from the need to provide care and assistance to another person due to the inability to live independently.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy explains that the care allowance is not granted to:
- a person entitled to care allowance ;
- a person placed in an institution providing free 24-hour care;
- if a family member is entitled to a benefit abroad to cover expenses related to the care of that person, unless the provisions on the coordination of social security systems or bilateral social security agreements provide otherwise.
