The supplementary parental benefit, also known as "Mama 4+," amounts to PLN 1,878.91 gross per month from March 1, 2025. It is available to individuals who have resigned from employment to raise children or who have not taken up employment at all for this reason.
- A parent may apply for a supplementary benefit in the event of a lack of income sufficient to provide the necessary means of subsistence.
- The following conditions must be met: giving birth to and raising or raising at least four children
- The parental supplementary benefit from March 1, 2025 amounts to PLN 1,878.91 gross per month.
If no retirement or disability pension is received, the supplementary parental benefit is payable at the minimum pension rate. As of March 1, 2025, it amounts to PLN 1,878.91 gross per month.
It's worth noting that if you receive a pension or disability benefit lower than the minimum pension, the supplementary parental benefit will be a supplement to the minimum pension. This means that the amount of the supplementary parental benefit will be equal to the difference between the minimum pension and the amount of the pension or disability benefit you receive.
At the same time, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) notes that the benefit amount after indexation cannot be higher than the minimum pension. If the benefit is supplemented to the minimum pension, the sum of the supplementary parental benefit and the pension or disability pension cannot exceed the minimum pension.
This supplementary parental benefit may be received if the applicant lacks sufficient income to provide the necessary means of subsistence. Eligible individuals include:
- a mother who is over 60 years of age and has given birth to and raised or only raised at least 4 children,
- a father who is over 65 years old and has raised at least 4 children because the children's mother died, abandoned them or did not raise them for a long time.
The condition of giving birth and raising or raising children applies to one's own children, children of the spouse, adopted children or children taken into foster care within a foster family, with the exception of a professional foster family.
However, to receive the benefit, the eligible person must live in Poland and have their centre of vital interests here for at least 10 years (after reaching the age of 16), and also have:
- Polish citizenship or
- citizenship of one of the Member States of the European Union or the Member States of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) and have the right of residence or the right of permanent residence in Poland, or
- in the case of a foreigner - legalized stay in Poland.
To receive this benefit, you must submit an application to ZUS. The form is available in customer service areas at ZUS branches.
A properly completed application must include:
- personal data: name, surname, date of birth, number;
- residential address;
- correspondence address (if different from the residential address);
- information on how the benefit is to be transferred;
- signature.
The application for supplementary parental benefit must also be accompanied by:
- information about children's PESEL numbers,
- declaration of personal, family, property and material situation,
- a foreign civil status document confirming the birth of a child, if the child's birth certificate is not registered in the Polish civil status register,
- court decision entrusting substitute care for the child,
- other documents that may affect the granting of benefits.
The declaration should confirm, among other things, whether:
- you have given birth to at least 4 children,
- you have raised at least 4 children,
- Have you had breaks in raising children? If so, how long were they and what was the reason?
- you have limited parental rights or are deprived of them,
- you live in Poland and after turning 16 you have your centre of vital interests here (within the meaning of Art. 3 sec. 1a item 1 of the Personal Income Tax Act of 26 July 1991), and if so, you must indicate the length of the period in which you meet this condition before applying for the benefit,
- you have an established right to a pension or disability pension,
- you receive a pension or disability pension,
- you earn income from employment or other gainful activity,
- do you have a farm, and if so, what is its area,
- you earn income from special branches of agricultural production,
- you earn other income,
- you are in custody or in a prison.
It is also necessary to confirm other circumstances that may influence the decision on supplementary parental benefit.
In the case of a father who applies for supplementary parental benefit, the declaration must indicate the date of death of the children’s mother or the date she abandoned the children or stopped raising them for a long period of time and confirm this with documents.
The information provided in the application for supplementary parental benefit and in the declaration of personal, family, property and material situation may be documented:
- certificates from the relevant tax office confirming the sources of income or revenues and their amount,
- certificates confirming current employment or other gainful activity and the amount of income or revenue generated,
- certificates confirming the amount of other benefits received,
- certificates from the municipal office confirming the type and size of the farm,
- declarations of the amount of income from the farm,
- other documents confirming personal, family, property and material situation.
As ZUS justifies, the benefit is payable from the first day of the month in which the decision in a given case was issued, but not earlier than from the day on which the applicant reaches the general retirement age (60 years for women, 65 years for men).
If a supplementary parental benefit has been granted, the person entitled to the benefit is obliged to notify the Institution of any changes that affect the right to this benefit and its amount.
