According to President-elect Karol Nawrocki, a reform of the indexation of pensions and disability benefits is necessary.

"It can't just be a mathematical calculation. It's a decision about whether seniors will have enough to live on," Nawrocki said in an interview with "Super Express."

The key change he would like to implement starting in 2026 would be to guarantee a minimum increase in benefits, independent of inflation or wage growth. This increase would amount to PLN 150 annually and would be particularly beneficial for the poorest retirees, as they are the ones most affected by inflation .

Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Policy, commented on the idea on Radio ZET. According to the politician, there is no need to change the law on this matter.

"We've been discussing for a long time how pensions should be adjusted when inflation is lower. We've also been discussing how to protect against penny-pinching pensions," the minister said. " There's no need to change the law . The government can increase the pension indexation rate in a given year. This indexation must keep pace with price increases. I've been discussing this with everyone, including the presidential palace ," she emphasized.

Currently, as a reminder, indexation is based on the increase in average wages and inflation in retiree households. Forecasts indicate that the index could reach 5.36% in 2026.
