Spain beat Germany with Bonmatí extra-time goal to reach Euro 2025 final

Aitana Bonmatí netted the only goal of the game late in extra time as world champions Spain edged Germany 1-0 in their Women's Euro 2025 semi-final on Wednesday to set up a title decider this weekend against England.

A tense game in Zurich was ticking down towards penalties when reigning Ballon d'Or Bonmatí struck in the 113th minute, surprising the usually reliable German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger at her near post.

Spain were also grateful to goalkeeper Cata Coll for some vital interventions, including a spectacular double save to deny Klara Buehl and Carlotta Wamser right at the end of normal time, as Germany were agonisingly eliminated.

The Spaniards will now face reigning European champions England on Sunday in Basel in what will be a repeat of the 2023 World Cup decider, when La Roja triumphed 1-0 in Sydney.

Flood warning in Valencia region after heavy storms in Barcelona

Valencian emergency services have warned that Thursday could bring very heavy rainfall and storms to the eastern region, with the province of Castellón most likely to be affected.

This comes after Catalonia was battered by hail and rain storms on Wednesday which left up to 60 litres per square metre in an hour, adverse weather that is likely to continue on Thursday.

This meteorological change will bring temperature drops of up 10C in some parts of the country. Heavy rain is also expected in the Balearics, Murcia, Almería, Cuenca and Albacete.

Sleeping rough at Madrid's airport banned from today

Spanish airport operator Aena has begun informing homeless people staying overnight at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport that, starting this Thursday, they will no longer be able to remain in its facilities.

Social workers will reportedly be on hand to assist the hundreds of people stay every night, especially at Terminal 4, due to the shelter and safety the airport provides.

Aena has insisted that airports "are not infrastructures designed for habitation". Other airports such as Barcelona's El Prat have a similar homelessness problem.

Valencia president mocked with Superman poster

Divisive Valencian regional president Carlos Mazón has appeared on posters around the city starring as Superman, with his head emblazoned on the superhero's body. The only difference is that that the movie's title has been replaced with Supermal, which translates as 'Superbad'.

Most Valencians blame Mazón for his poor handling of the DANA floods in October of last year which cost more than 200 people their lives and billions in damages. There have been numerous protests each with tens of thousands of people calling for his resignation since.
