The Ministry of Health hopes to eradicate measles cases by November.

The Ministry of Health hopes to eradicate measles cases by November.

This Tuesday, the head of the Ministry of Health, David Kershenobich, expressed hope for eradicating the measles outbreak in the country by next November. He explained that, to date, 3,500 cases have been reported and 12 deaths have been recorded.

"Our goal is to try to ensure that by November we have no more measles cases and that we could once again be measles-free." , the secretary said at a presidential press conference.

The official explained that due to the presence of cases, vaccination has increased "very significantly" and has subsequently managed to contain the outbreak in the state of Chihuahua, where the majority of infections have accumulated.

"In the other states, the virus has already been largely contained. Chihuahua is where we're really experiencing the outbreak. We've deployed a significant number of vaccinators, along with the governor of the state of Chihuahua, and the population is being intensively vaccinated." , he noted.

He also celebrated the fact that the lockdown implemented by health authorities "has worked," and that the frequency and incidence rate of cases has decreased "significantly."

He stated that the country's epidemiological surveillance program has been significantly strengthened and that there are approximately 6 million vaccine doses available to vaccinate more than 95% of the at-risk population.

The federal Ministry of Health has reported a total of 12 measles deaths in the country. The latest death was recorded in Chihuahua, a state with a total of 3,490 cases and 11 fatalities.

As of July 25, 20 states and 82 municipalities reported infections, for a total of 3,730 cases.

In recent weeks, the Mexican government has implemented the "Juárez Shield Strategy" to combat measles, emphasizing vaccination in the north of the country.

In the last week alone, 42,146 measles vaccines were administered, mainly in municipalities with the highest concentration of cases.

Vaccination is free and available for children 6 months and older and for the general population up to age 49.
