Six cases of monkeypox have been detected in this state of Mexico.

The Federal Ministry of Health reported that six cases of monkeypox (MPOX) have been recorded in Yucatán, located in the city of Mérida.

In response, state health authorities implemented epidemiological monitoring measures, active contact tracing, and information campaigns to prevent the disease.

The Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY) indicated that monkeypox is a viral disease that is transmitted by direct contact with lesions or bodily fluids, as well as through contact with contaminated objects and, to a lesser extent, through respiratory contact.

Its symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and the appearance of characteristic skin rashes.

As part of the health response, the SSY has strengthened controls in medical centers and hospitals, expanded surveillance to private clinics and laboratories, and trained health personnel to detect associated symptoms early.

It should be noted that the monkeypox virus remains active nationally and globally, Therefore, Yucatán remains in an intermediate surveillance stage with no evidence of a massive outbreak.
