Single-dose penicillin is effective against early syphilis

A single dose of penicillin works just as well at curing early syphilis as the three-shot regimen now used by many doctors, according to a new clinical trial.
Second and third doses of benzathine penicillin G (BPG) provide no additional benefit in treating early-stage syphilis, researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
