Crob Basilicata launches interventional angiography service

The angiography service starts interventional at the IRCCS Crob (Oncology Reference Center) of Basilicata) of Rionero in Vulture (Potenza). The Institute's press office announced this, specifying that "the director of the Diagnostic Imaging Unit, Aldo Cammarota, to implement angiography activities interventional, with particular reference to the treatment of tumor lesions and management of complications related to disease and treatment, will avail of the consultancy specialist of Dr. Mario Scarpelli, former director anesthetist and medical director of haemodynamics at the Aorn Cardarelli Napoli and former medical director of neuroradiology interventional medicine at the Aou Federico II Naples". The note also specifies that "angiography interventional is a medical procedure that combines the diagnostics with therapeutic interventions inside the vessels blood. In oncology, interventional angiography uses imaging techniques to diagnose and treat tumors, often in a minimally invasive way. It consists of performing procedures such as embolization, which blocks blood vessels that feed the tumor, or chemoembolization, which combines embolization with drug administration chemotherapy directly into the tumor, allowing to reduce minimising trauma to the patient and improving recovery times recovery". "Advanced diagnostics play a key role in treatment of cancer and the new interventional angiography service represents a significant step forward in this field - has said the general director of the IRCCS Crob, Massimo De Fino - thanks to the TecnoCrob project which allowed the purchase of the new equipment and the professionalism of the doctor Scarpelli, an expert with particular and proven specialization, Irccs Crob can offer new opportunities to improve the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases through minimally invasive interventions. An action that fits in in the objectives envisaged by the Crob strengthening plan which aims to consolidate and strengthen its role as clinical-care reference at regional level, of excellence in cancer research and a key point within the regional oncology network". With the TecnoCrob project, "the park has been strengthened technological development of the Institute for a total of 20 million euros co-financed by the Basilicata Region. In addition to the new angiograph fixed vascular, with the angiographic injector and the work station post processing, latest technologies have been purchased generation and top of the range, including a surgical robot, a new digital PET/CT and a SPECT/CT for Nuclear Medicine, two CT scans, a new research sequencer and a further linear accelerator for radiotherapy".
