A break from the heat this weekend. The Ministry of Health's latest heatwave bulletin is dominated by the green color this weekend.

Today, most of the peninsula is green, although Catania and Messina are on maximum alert (level 3, i.e. red, posing health risks for the general population) and 4 cities are on yellow alert (Bari, Palermo, Pescara, and Reggio Calabria).

The coolest day will be Sunday, when of the 27 cities monitored, only Bolzano and Catania will have a yellow warning (risk level one, pre-alert indicator), while all other provincial capitals will have a green warning (risk 0).

Rain and thunderstorms in central and northern Italy

An Atlantic-origin low-pressure system continues to affect central and northern regions, bringing humid and unstable southwesterly flows at high altitude. This will bring weather conditions characterized by showers and thunderstorms, locally intense, especially in the Adriatic areas. The Civil Protection Department's warning forecasts scattered rainfall, mainly thunderstorms, from the early hours of today, Saturday, July 26th, across Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, and Friuli Venezia Giulia, extending to eastern Liguria and eastern parts of Marche and Umbria.

The storms will be accompanied by heavy downpours, frequent electrical activity, localized hailstorms, and strong gusts of wind. Based on the current and forecast storms, a yellow alert has been issued for today in Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and parts of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Liguria, Marche, and Umbria.
