Family Planning urged the US administration on Friday, July 25, to reverse its "insane" decision to destroy female contraceptives worth several million dollars stored in Belgium and which could be incinerated in France, denouncing an act of "reproductive coercion."

A spokesperson for the US State Department confirmed to AFP on Thursday that a "preliminary decision" had been made regarding the destruction of "certain abortion contraceptive products from USAID contracts," the US agency for international development dismantled by the Trump administration.
According to press reports, the contraceptives in question (implants, IUDs), worth $9.7 million, are stored in Belgium and are to be incinerated in France.
“Waste and extremist ideology rather than care”"Today, pallets of contraceptives remain unused in warehouses, notably in Geel, Belgium, awaiting destruction. In France, they are already scheduled for incineration in the coming days," warns the Family Planning Association in a joint statement with the Secular Federation of Family Planning Centers (FLCPF), Belgium's International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), France's Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Sensoa and Belgium's Countdown 2030 Europe.
