Several mussels are being recalled nationwide due to the presence of salmonella. These batches were sold in early July at U, Leclerc, and Carrefour stores.

If you had mussels and fries on your weekend menu, be careful. Two recalls of bouchot mussels—the name given to the partially submerged wooden stake used to raise the mussels—have been issued across France.

These batches, marketed at the beginning of July in the U, Leclerc and Carrefour stores, have been recalled since Friday due to the presence of salmonella, as specified on the government website RappelConso .

The first recall concerns one-kilogram trays of Cultimer Label Rouge mussels. The affected product has the GTIN reference 36643350108, batch number 43652821. The trays have been sold throughout France since July 8 in the Coopérative U, Leclerc and Carrefour stores.

The second recall concerns 1.4-kilo trays of Atelier Poissonneries bouchot mussels. They have been distributed throughout France since July 8 in Leclerc stores. The affected product bears the reference GTIN 36643350108, batch number 43652821.

What risks?

What are the risks for consumers when ingesting this type of product contaminated with Salmonella? Symptoms include gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea, vomiting), which often appear suddenly, accompanied by fever and headaches, which generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consuming the contaminated products.

"These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and the elderly," RappelConso states. People who have consumed these products and who experience these symptoms are encouraged to consult their doctor and report their consumption. If you do not experience symptoms within 7 days of consuming the products in question, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor.
