Faced with a shortage of general practitioners, several municipalities around Pont-à-Mousson are struggling to maintain adequate healthcare provision. Plans for health centers are emerging, but are struggling to materialize without guarantees of practitioners establishing their practice.

In the area around Pont-à-Mousson, medical desertification is gaining ground. Due to a lack of general practitioners, several municipalities are finding themselves in difficulty. "Yet, we were in a well-equipped area," emphasizes Antony Caps, mayor of Nomeny. While the small town of around 1,100 inhabitants has three dentists, a nursing practice, physiotherapists, a pharmacy, and many other healthcare professionals, today it finds itself with only one doctor "who is in the process of ceasing his practice."
