Valentine is a forestry technician. During 2022, she suffered about twenty tick bites. The thirty-year-old had never experienced erythema migrans . In June 2022, Valentine felt tingling in her hands, pins and needles that woke her up at night, then needle sticks in her hands and wrists. Given her work, Valentine suggested Lyme disease as a possibility. This was rejected outright by the neurologist she consulted. Carpal tunnel problems were quickly ruled out. From March 2023 to August 2024, the young woman underwent every possible neurological examination, without finding anything.

Inexorable degradation

Foot pain also appears. The diagnosis evolves: it appears to be "small fiber neuropathy"... with no identified cause. Conversely, a skin biopsy shows the absence of degeneration in the small nerve fibers.
