In the summer, a simple stroll through a market can quickly turn into a challenge for your wallet, between the temptations and sometimes, the prices. To avoid these pitfalls, start by maintaining your good habits for the rest of the year:

Don't leave without a list and plan your menus. This doesn't prevent you from treating yourself, of course. Hunt for promotions; Aim for raw and unprocessed products. Fresh fruits or vegetables, of course, knowing that frozen or canned versions are also a good alternative. For fish that can increase the bill, ask for a whole one, like hake, which is rather cheaper; Eat seasonal products, in other words when they are at their peak production. They are generally less expensive; Favor homemade, simple: an excellent way to control the contents of your plate and why not reuse what has not been consumed. Like a portion of rice or vegetables that can end up in a salad for the next meal; Play tactically with proteins: cut meat and fish are often expensive. So limit your portions and look for other plant-based proteins, especially economical legumes (lentils, etc.); Play the local card: local products are supposed to have traveled less before reaching your stall. They are therefore theoretically less expensive. In any case, don't hesitate to compare... but be wary of regional products: in Provence, not all herbs and other oils are native to the region.
