Health. Why wearing flip-flops every day can harm your feet?

The French Union for Foot Health regularly sounds the alarm: wearing flip-flops daily promotes the development of numerous pathologies. The problem begins with the plastic sole, which, through repeated friction, accelerates the formation of calluses and can cause irritation and even skin allergies.
But that's not all. The complete lack of foot support significantly increases the risk of sprains, especially in children and the elderly.
The toes, constantly clinging to the flip-flop to prevent it from slipping, end up deforming into "claws".
Repercussions on the whole bodyAccording to the American Podiatric Medical Association, flip-flops change the way we walk. To keep the shoe on our feet, we unconsciously shorten our steps and contract our toes, which can lead to hip and lower back problems.
The sole, which is far too thin, does not protect the ankles, knees or back from repeated shocks when walking.
Special risksFor some people, wearing flip-flops poses a heightened risk. Diabetics, whose feet are already fragile, are at risk of serious infections. Any injury, however minor, can lead to dramatic consequences for these patients, including amputation.
These sandals should never be worn for gardening or hiking. You risk stubbing your toes and your feet won't be protected if heavy objects fall on them.
The same goes for driving: a slippery flip-flop can get stuck under the pedals and dangerously limit your control of your vehicle.
Are we finally stopping wearing flip-flops?This doesn't mean we should ban flip-flops from our summers altogether. They remain useful after sports, in public showers, around the pool, or at the beach... The important thing is to wear them for short periods of time.
