Health. How does sundowner syndrome manifest?

Known as Sunset Syndrome , sunset syndrome is characterized by the onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms, usually in the late afternoon or early evening. These include agitation, confusion, and anxiety. Some specialists even refer to it as "delirium."
So many symptoms that tend to amplify or intensify rather than actually appear, at this precise moment of the day, as shown in 2017 by Brazilian doctors who evoke the presence of "depressive symptoms" and/or "cognitive deficit".
Depression…In an article in the New York Post , a psychologist from the University of Florida confirms these manifestations, which can take the form of " feelings of depression, isolation and hopelessness " which actually tend to intensify at sunset or nightfall.
The explanation could come from our biological clock , and more specifically, the lack of natural light. This can lead to a drop in energy, motivation, and even anxiety and nervousness that can occur as bedtime approaches.
How to avoid it?To help control this anxiety, the American psychologist recommends, for example, planning enjoyable activities, such as physical or cultural activities, at times when it usually occurs. If you are affected, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor.
Twilight stateNote that this sunset syndrome can be compared to what is called the twilight state in geriatrics. This is characterized by an exacerbation of symptoms of confusion and disorientation, occurring at nightfall.
With patients who, at the end of the day, experience an increase in anxiety. This is precisely against a backdrop of agitation or other repetitive behaviors (questions or gestures).
